Thesis #1

"Wednesday"
Pencil

Here's a piece from my thesis project. ... Since I've yet to write what my thesis is on here, I will do so now. The following is what I wrote way back in the beginning of the year... I don't feel like rewording it in a more laid back blog way so here it is in its original form:

My idea is to create seven handmade books, each of which represent a dream from one day in a week. The dreams will belong to a character I made up, named Ashlyn. Within each book will be one detailed illustration meant to show viewers what Ashlyn’s dream looked like, as well as provide a loose narrative. Because dreams’ imagery and emotions are often influenced by what happened during the day, I’m hoping each illustration will reflect what it is that Ashlyn experienced and felt while awake, but through use of more surreal imagery. In the end, I’m hoping to have a “visual documentation” of one week of Ashlyn’s dreams. The books, since they are a set, will be placed together in a box I will make.

I plan to have 8 illustrations in all: one for each of the seven books, and one for the top of the box.

During the second semester I'm also going to do another realistic drawing of my mom, just on the side, since I plan on having my illustrations done early.

This piece is the dream Ashlyn had on Wednesday. I eventually want to color it, but for right now I'm just trying to get the black and whites done. These pieces take a while, so I'm only going to be able to finish three or four this semester! Kind of sad, but I'm glad to have finally gotten the first one done!

Also, I'll eventually title this to something that will help imply what the narrative behind the piece is. Since all the pieces are kind of ambiguous in meaning, I'm thinking the title could help lead viewers in a certain direction towards a certain meaning.

Okay, well that is all I have for now... Soon I will post another thesis piece, as I have one that is starting to get close to finished. Other than that, yeah, I have nothing. Good bye!
